In 2015, my spouse told me she was transgender and wanted to become female. The next few months were overwhelmed with exploring different options, feelings, and goals. Some weeks she decided that she didn’t want to be a woman and other weeks she did. There were times that I envisioned us together and others when I felt it was impossible. We danced like this together until we both realized that we were faced with two choices: either transition together or lose us forever. In that moment, I chose to transition with my wife. The decision was just like flicking the switch to turn on the light bulb. So simple. But, as we found out, the actual transition brought its own set of issues for our family.

Now, my wife, daughter, and I live in a little apartment in a big Texas city enjoying our new normal together as a family.
